HR Support for Utah Small Businesses

You don't need a full-time HR department to have good HR help. Moxie HR Consulting is an owner-led HR consulting firm based in Eagle Mountain, working with small businesses across Utah County and Salt Lake County that want practical answers about their employees without adding another salary to payroll.

What outsourced HR support actually means

Outsourced HR means having an experienced HR professional on your side without hiring one as an employee. You stay the employer and keep making the decisions. I help you make them with confidence: what to document, how to handle a hard conversation, which policies you need, and what the rules say before you act.

A lot of owners don't realize this is an option. They search for answers one question at a time, piece together advice from forums and templates, and hope they got it right. Outside HR support gives you one person who knows your business and can help you think it through.

How Moxie HR Consulting can help

Employee relations and difficult conversations

Attendance problems, conflict between team members, an employee situation that feels unclear. We talk through what's happening, what your options are, and how to handle it fairly and consistently.

Hiring and onboarding

Offer letters, new hire paperwork, and an onboarding process that gives new employees a clear start and gives you a repeatable process.

Performance management and documentation

Coaching, write-ups and corrective action that are clear, consistent and documented the right way, so you aren't scrambling if a situation escalates.

Policies and employee handbooks

Policies written for how your business actually runs. If you need a complete handbook, see the custom employee handbook package.

HR compliance guidance

Help understanding the employment requirements that apply to your business, including pay changes, terminations and final pay, and keeping the right records.

Ongoing HR support

Some businesses need help with one project. Others want someone to call every time a people question comes up. Support is built around your team's size, needs and how often HR questions come up.

How the HR Hotline works

The Moxie HR Hotline gives you ongoing access to HR guidance instead of guessing your way through each situation. You get a client hotline, an organized space where you can find answers, use templates, and submit requests without waiting on an email for every question.

Support comes in three levels, depending on how much help you want:

  • HR Guided System: templates, workflows and hotline access for owners who handle HR themselves and want a clear system.

  • HR Partner: ongoing support with employee issues, hiring, onboarding and compliance, with HR responsibility shared between us.

  • HR Lead: hands-on HR management for businesses that want HR handled for them.

We'll talk through which level fits during your consultation.

Who Moxie works best with

Moxie is a good fit for small businesses that:

  • Have employees but no HR department

  • Are growing and starting to feel the HR side get complicated

  • Are managing employees for the first time

  • Want to tighten up documentation, policies and onboarding

  • Want a reliable person to call when an employee question comes up

I work with small businesses in Utah County and the Salt Lake Valley, from teams of a few employees to growing companies, and with businesses outside Utah too.

Why work with a local, owner-led HR consultant

When you work with Moxie, you work with me, Tristen. Not a call center or a rotating account team. I keep the advice practical and the language plain, and I understand the day-to-day pressure of running a small business. I'm also a licensed benefits agent, so when employee benefits questions come up alongside HR, you don't need a separate person to start the conversation.

"Tristen has helped us build practical systems for employee performance management, documentation, hiring & onboarding communication, accountability workflows, and corrective action processes. One of the biggest things that's stood out to me is her ability to stay calm, factual, and solution-oriented during challenging employee situations."

Common questions

Do I need HR help if I only have a few employees?

Many of the questions start with your first hire: paperwork, pay, time off and what to do when something goes wrong. Getting the basics right early is easier than fixing them later.

How is this different from a PEO?

A PEO becomes a co-employer and usually bundles payroll, benefits and HR into one contract. With Moxie, you remain the employer. I work alongside you as your outside HR resource, and help with payroll or benefits connections can be added if you need it.

Is this legal advice?

No. I provide HR guidance. When a situation calls for an employment attorney, I'll tell you so you can bring one in.
